While growing up, going to libraries felt like an adventure filled with mystery and wonder to Debra. The hushed tones invoked secrets, and the dusty, sometimes moldy scent of paper smelled like perfume. Leaving the library with just a single book never happened. Years later, her love of reading turned to passion for writing. Debra’s an award-winning artist who lives in southern Arizona where the average summer temperatures are truly hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk.

An Interesting Twist

Debra Erfert's newest book, A Strange Twist of Fate, certainly lives up to its name. The story follows Anna, a recent widow who can't leave well enough alone. Convinced her husband's death wasn't an accident, she's secretly investigated his demise for the past year, but one of her leads gets her into serious trouble and lands her in the hands of Detective Lee Adams.

Together, the two try to figure out if Anna's husband really was murdered, or it it's all just in her head. However, on their journey, they uncover several other crimes, risking life and limb. And the end is a plot twist worthy of the title.

If you're a fan of deductive thrillers, this is the read for you. There's a lot of action, a couple red herrings, and a bit of romance that has a little more passion than I normally like to read. But even with that, I'd still consider this a clean read. The characters are well-developed and the story flows. There were a few points I didn't quite like where it seemed stereo-typical, but that could just be me. Overall, a really great story. I give it four stars.

I voluntarily read and reviewed this book.

Cover Reveal: The Heart of Escher by Jonathan Dance

Born and raised in Hampshire, I spent most of my childhood dreaming up random adventures.

I left the sunny south coast to study Graphic Communication in Bath, where I fell in love with the rolling Somerset hills when I wasn’t walking up them.

Returning to Hampshire 6 years later, after meeting my now wife, Claire, I enjoy a quieter life, walking in the New Forest and relaxing with my wonderful wife and fluffy cat Molly.

I have always enjoyed telling stories, more often than not in visual form, either in films or animations. However, the idea of Escher was too big for me to do visually by myself so I picked up a pen and started writing.

Having written one novel, I am now keen to tell more stories of Escher, while at the same time expressing my imagination with my art.

James Fisher, a lonely, bullied schoolboy, finds himself in the dark and twisted land of Escher after wishing himself away from an ill-fated family holiday.
Lost and frightened, James must help heal the dying world of Escher, overrun by the creatures of the Nightmare forest, to return home.
Guided by the emerald-eyed cat, Sam, and befriended by the headstrong resistance fighter, Jasper, James is taken on an adventure through a world mirroring his own nightmares, where he is forced to confront his own fears and the ghostly Shadow in order to save Escher.
Unbeknown to James, not only is he fighting for Escher’s future, but also his own.

First lets take a look inside the book

Snippet:

Up in the clouds, everything was different; James was now shrouded by mist and he was all alone. Where the others had gone, he did not know.

At first, James did not know what to think, everything had happened so fast, and now to be seemingly floating within the clouds seemed rather surreal.

James called for Jasper and Sami, but only rumbles of thunder could be heard. Flashes of lightning rippled through the haze, and with each new burst James saw imprints of sad memories amongst the clouds.

And now for the Cover

Let's take a look inside!

Courtney glanced out the window overlooking the dining area as she did. Overhead, something momentarily blotted out the sun. It looked like some kind of bird, though none she could identify. She moved closer to the window, trying to decide if she’d seen something or not. “Hey, Tyler, have you heard of there being any kind of large bird in the area?”
Tyler looked up from cleaning the counter with a dishtowel. “Large birds?” He abandoned his cloth and walked over to the window. The hair on the back of his neck began to prickle as he saw another shadow cross over the sun. It didn’t look like the typical fowl.
The silhouette looked like some kind of flying creature. It resembled one he’d seen several years ago. He could clearly see two creatures, even though they were both relatively far away. “That’s not a bird,” he warned. He reached for the nearest weapon, which happened to be a wooden walking stick from against the wall.
Seeing Tyler’s unusual reaction, Anwen felt her chest tighten. “How did they find us?”
