“But if you could touch me,” I continued, “what would you do first?”
He closed his eyes and his brow pulled into a pained expression. “Your hands, most definitely. I’ve watched them so many times. Holding your face when you are bored in class. Rubbing a knot out of your shoulders when you’re stressed out. Covering your lips when you’re concentrating. They look soft. You don’t know how many times I’ve wanted to reach out and feel them, hold them.” He swallowed hard. “Feel them touch me.”
My breath came out in a rush. I felt his eyes on me during all those times I was unaware he was watching. I wondered what else he had noticed about me. I was flattered and aching.
“What next?” I gently prodded.
He softly covered his mouth with his fingers. A subconscious effort to stop speaking, stop revealing? It didn’t work.
“Your neck.” He looked at me apologetically, as though he’d been caught in the wrong. I smiled to reassure him.
“The other day when we came home from that run and I followed you inside, your hair was up. You leaned down to write that note to your mom. I saw a piece of hair escape and fall against your neck. I swear I could smell your skin, Presley. If I were me, all of me, I wouldn’t have been able to resist kissing that place on your neck. He closed his eyes. “I don’t know why I’m telling you this, but I’ve thought about that scenario so many times.”
I knew my mouth had opened too far, but I couldn’t close it. I couldn’t move. I saw his mouth and imagined it on the back of my neck, and fine, tiny hairs all over my body rose and tingled as if he actually had kissed me there.
In one short discussion we had rounded the bend. The air was thick with the intoxicating perfume of attraction and my whole body was singing with the way his words had caressed me.
In Landon too, the change was marked. His chest rose and fell with the roughness of his breath. His mouth was set and the charge in the air, palpable. I could see in his eyes that he would tell me anything I wanted to know.
“And of course there is the obvious.” He eased the tension the tiniest bit with a playful chuckle.
“The obvious?” I asked.
