American writer Nora Tierney is house hunting in Oxford to solidify her little family that includes her almost-year old son, Sean, and her partner, Det. Insp. Declan Barnes. But why does she feel like she's being followed?

When tracking devices confirm Nora has a stalker, it sets off a chain of events that connect to Declan's murder investigation of a young Oxford art restorer, and will bring bioterrorism and a psychopath into their lives, while Sean's hangs in the balance. The fourth Nora Tierney English mystery is the most tension-filled yet, a meditation on what is family and home, combined with art theft and an international conspiracy.

This is the fourth book in the series and while it can be read as a standalone it is so much more enjoyable if you read the series in order! So find the entire series below.

“Is Sean still asleep?”

He looked over his shoulder and nodded. The toddler dozed with his bunny clamped tightly under one arm.

“I need to talk to you about something.” Nora took a deep breath. The sun came in the window and highlighted the freckles across her nose.

“What is it?” Was this it? Was she finally going to ask him to move in with her? This was one conversation he knew they needed to have. They would be in Brighton soon.

She kept her eyes on the road in front of her as she rooted around inside a pocket of the large bag she carried, and handed him what looked like a silver button. “Can you tell me what this is? Because I think I’m being followed.”

Snippet:

He could already see the steely-eyed look she was giving him as she parked and climbed from the car.
Resting her arms on the top of the car, she looked up at him. “What are you doing on my steps?”
“Waiting for you. We had a family dinner at my parents’ house, but you were working. So my mom sent leftovers for you.”
She drummed her fingers on the roof of the car. “What did she send?”
“Get up here and find out.”
Lacy hesitated for a moment before closing the car door and walking toward him. “Did she send flowers too?”
“Nope, that’s all me. I get credit for being sappy.”
“Flowers die, Matthews.”
“They sure do. But for a while they give off joy. I thought you could use some joy,” he said, noticing that her face twitched as if she wanted to smile, but it would have been out of character for her.
Picking the bag up from the step, she moved to the door and pushed it open.
“You don’t lock your door?” He wasn’t sure if that was a scolding or sheer amazement for what he considered stupidity.

“Sucks that you’ve been sitting out here this whole time when you could have been inside where it’s nice and I have a wide selection of TV channels.”

Snippet:

Kate continued to look at herself in the mirror, shifting uncomfortably as the two women talked. The whole situation reminded her too much of training with Veronica for Marconi’s club. Kate had been terrible at it, at least in the beginning, though she had started catching on near the end. There wouldn’t be time to acclimate this time. She’d be expected to perform right from the get-go. A single mistake would get her killed and then what good was everything she’d done? She would expose the whole family and get a lot of other people killed too. She’d been a fool to think she could do this. Some people were made to be heroic, like her grandma, Bruno, Pascal, Abramo, and Mario—but not her. But she couldn’t totally give up. She had to see justice done. Maybe there was a way she could help behind the scenes. Help someone else be the hero.

When 15-year-old Rosa agrees to help the ghost of King Tut find his lost queen Hesena, she doesn't count on falling for him.

Once back in Ancient Egypt, Rosa discovers that finding Hesena if not all she must do and is not as easy as she thought it would be, even though she carries part of the lost queen in her soul. She must also keep out of the reach of the living Horemheb—who crosses mortal boundaries using Seth's evil magic—if she is to stay alive to make it back
 home.

Snippet:

No way! “Hey, Tut. This sphinx still has its nose. This isn’t The Sphinx.”

“What are you saying, Roosa? Come and help me clear the sand away from the stele.” “I said, this isn’t The Sphinx. It still has its nose.”

“Of course, it has a nose. That’s the way it was made.”

“No. You don’t understand,” I protest. “The Sphinx in my time has no nose. It’s been broken off for centuries.”

Tut casts me a perplexed look. A tingling sensation goes through me like when you touch your tongue to the two terminals of a battery. “Come, Roosa. We need to unbury the stele.”

I follow blindly, still looking at the undamaged face of the Sphinx. It’s definitely more striking to see it in one piece.

“People have always wondered what happened to it,” I say more to myself than to Tut. “Guess I won’t find out now.”

It is only as I help Tut scoop the sand away from the top edge of the stele that I realize the sand has drifted and blown all around the Sphinx, burying it up to its neck in places. No wonder it appears smaller.

The desert always reclaims its own, even mighty Pharaohs.”

I jerk my head up searching for the voice. I glance at Tut, but he continues to dig.

My hands wrap themselves around my stomach. The nausea’s coming back. It is her. It is Ankhesenamun.

“It is all right, Rosa. Here in my homeland I find communication easier for short moments.”

Tut stops digging, his eyes glued on me. “Please, Rosa. Show him I still love and support him.”

Confused, I start to question her, but like an avalanche, the answer bursts into my mind.

The picture at home in my room. The two of them. Her longing sits heavy in the pit of my stomach. Unable to do anything else, I nod ever so slightly. Then, with Tut’s expression still questioning, I reach out and touch him as she does in the picture. Energy flows down my arm into my fingertips. Tut grips my hand and presses it to his heart.

Monster Mash Countdown Blitz Day Three: The Unmistakable Scent of Gardenias by Denise Moncrief

Denise is a Southern girl who has lived in Louisiana all her life, and yes, she has a drawl. She has a wonderful husband and two incredible children, who not only endure her writing moods, but also encourage her to indulge her writing passion. Besides writing romantic suspense, she enjoys traveling, reading, and cooking.

Accounting is a skill she has learned to earn a little money to support her writing habit. She wrote her first story when she was a teen, seventeen handwritten pages on school-ruled paper and an obvious rip-off of the last romance novel she had read. She's been writing off and on ever since, and with more than a few full-length manuscripts already completed, she has no desire to slow down.

Snippet:

Celia led them toward the back of the main hall where Charlotte assumed there was an entrance into the kitchen. Celia pushed a swinging door behind the stairs and disappeared through it, leaving the door to settle into place in Charlotte’s face. She sucked down her irritation and pushed through to the other side.
She stalled in the doorway, and the door slammed into her back. Rotting boards hung from above, dangling from the ceiling and resting with one end on the floor below. Water spots marked the part of the ceiling that was still intact. The flooring had warped in the room as badly as it had on the front porch deck. A large hole in the center of the room opened up to the underside of the house. Charlotte spotted weeds growing up through the gaping hole. Several windows were missing, and a breeze pushed chilled air through the vacant panes. Nothing resembling modern existed in the room. In fact, the place appeared as if it had been abandoned to the elements for the past seventy-five years.
Celia was nowhere to be found. A door to the outside of the house hung on one hinge on the far side of the room, but how could Celia have traversed the rotted floor so quickly without falling through the hole in the floor? If she had, Celia would have cried out from the fall. A step further into the room warned Charlotte of the floor’s instability. She peered into the large hole, but couldn’t see any sign of Celia.

She backed out of the door and turned to leave, intending to go outside and circle the house searching for the woman. As she twisted to head across the main hall toward the front door, she pulled back before taking another step. In front of her stretched another hole in the floor larger than the one in the middle of the kitchen. She shook her head to disperse the fog in her brain. Until that moment, she had attributed the grogginess to sleep deprivation. Was something more sinister working on her mind?
