Marie never expected to wake up in North Pole City, let alone being made Santa’s Emergency Replacement. It was a job she never wanted but couldn’t turn down, thanks to Clarence, Santa’s right hand man.

Now, Marie has to work with Clarence, who believes she is some kind of criminal who will cause the destruction of everything he holds dear. Trying to prove that he’s wrong, Marie keeps making mistakes that push them even further apart. It doesn’t help that she has a past she’d rather keep hidden. However, trying to keep her past where it should belong isn’t easy.

Just when Marie starts to feel like things are coming together, a madman with a bone to pick, and Christmas to ruin, threatens the whole of the North Pole Organization. Marie must rely on Clarence and her new friends to help her face her past before Christmas is gone forever.  But does she have the courage to truly be herself when it could mean losing everything?

Snippet:

"E-two to C-one! Do you copy? Over."

Clarence shakily pulled out the device and thumbed the transmit button. "C-one here. What's the problem? Over."

Static sounded over the frequency as he released the talk button. He waited almost impatiently for a response, not liking the tone in Dena's voice. "We have a code seven. Repeat, a code seven. We'll meet in the usual place. Over," Dena's voice crackled.

"I'm on my way. Over and out." The radio gave one last burst of static as Clarence put it back in his pocket. He shook slightly as he stepped down from the running board. He couldn't help but remember a similar set of circumstances several years ago. Those circumstances had led to the death of one of his closest friends. He forced himself to stop trembling once his feet hit the cold ground. He had a job to do right now, and his personal life could not interfere, nor could his growing fear. He'd been trained too well. These feelings had to wait.

He turned to Marie with an unreadable expression. "Take the reindeer back to the stable, then go find Sandra." Without another word, he ran to a side entrance that led to the city, vanishing into the shadows.

Marie watched him leave, whistling a command to the reindeer. They ran to a high dune and disappeared. A growing fear beat against her chest; one she could almost put a name to.

"How do you choose between your heart and your responsibilities?

Merry Hurst, a fierce widow and single mom, is determined to give her young son the life he deserves—including a male role model who will stick around for the long haul. She can't afford to fall for a man who isn't planning to stay in Huckleberry Falls, so she might as well stop dreaming about Carlisle Wyndham. If only it were that easy!

Carlisle Wyndham is determined to develop the avalanche-proof transceiver that could have saved his wife's life. He's glad his daughter has made a new friend, but they’re only staying in Huckleberry Falls long enough to complete the project. When he meets the young boy’s mother, Carlisle’s not prepared for how alive she makes him feel.

But he has pressing responsibilities pulling him back to England while Merry’s require her to stay. Do they dare risk getting involved only to say goodbye?"

Snippet:

By the time Carlisle returned with a bundle of hay, he wondered if he should have changed his clothes before coming. Had he known he’d be attending such an event, he’d never have worn his dress coat. The thought brought to mind one of his grandfather’s lectures on proper dress for families that were members of the peerage. What would the old man say if he could see Carlisle now? It made him chuckle.

“What are you laughing at?” Merry asked as she tied something around the crossbar for the tall scarecrow’s frame. “We want in on the joke.”

At first, Carlisle wasn’t going to tell her, but the three happy and expectant faces loosened his lips. He set down the pile of hay and extended his arms from his sides. Grace giggled.

“You can be the scarecrow, Papa!”

Christmas Countdown Blitz Day Four: Roping Christmas by Shanna Hatfield

USA Today bestselling author Shanna Hatfield is a farm girl who loves to write. Her sweet historical and contemporary romances are filled with sarcasm, humor, hope, and hunky heroes.

When Shanna isn't dreaming up unforgettable characters, twisting plots, or covertly seeking dark, decadent chocolate, she hangs out with her beloved husband, Captain Cavedweller.

A focused cowboy, a distracted executive, and a hilarious quest make for an unforgettable holiday . . .

Wyatt Nash is a professional tie-down roper, a good ranch hand, and not too shabby when it comes to attracting women. But according to his five-year-old niece, he needs to work on both his roping skills and his dating game. His sister thinks he needs to settle down. And don’t get him started on the advice he gets from well-meaning friends. When his rodeo sponsor, billionaire Jon Sinclair, asks for his assistance in tutoring a clueless city girl about Sinclair Industries, Wyatt doesn’t feel like he can say no. Then he discovers he’ll be teaching none other than the one woman on the planet who wants nothing to do with him.

Ashley Jarrett would do almost anything to turn her small publicity firm into a huge success. When Jon Sinclair expresses interest in working with her, she readily agrees to his crazy idea to have her learn about his company through hands-on projects. Not only is she forced far outside her comfort zone, but the man documenting every bumbling misstep she takes is an infuriating cowboy she’s determined to ignore.

Packed with small-town charm and the wonder of falling in love, Roping Christmas is a sweet holiday romance sure to bring laughter and infuse hearts Christmas cheer.

Snippet:

Normally, Ashley could talk about her business for hours without coming up for air, but something about Wyatt left her so askew, she could hardly hold two thoughts together. As though an invisible magnet pulled them toward each other, their gazes collided, and they scooted closer.

Work-roughened fingers grazed across her cheek, and his eyes darkened until they were nearly black in the fading sunlight.

“You are extraordinarily lovely, Miss Jarrett,” he said in a husky tone that threatened to leave her too wobbly-kneed to walk back down the hill.

“You’re quite handsome yourself, Mr. Nash. I’m pleased we had this chance to meet.” Ashley slid a little closer to him and lowered her lashes, convinced he was about to kiss her.

Then, like being doused with a bucket of cold water, the reality of the situation splashed over her. Hastily, she moved away from him and snapped her shoulders back, giving him a guarded look. “In spite of this … um … interest between us, I’m not in a position to pursue a relationship with anyone. I have all I can handle with my career, and I have no intention of getting involved with one of Chase’s friends.”

“Well, I could say the same thing.” Wyatt looked away from her and released a sigh before he glanced back at her. “Glad we cleared that up. If you stop making moony eyes at me and trying to lead me astray, there won’t be any missteps on my part.”

“Moony eyes? Me?” she asked in a raised voice, affronted. “Lead you astray? Why, I … you … That’s a …”

“Uncle Wyatt?” Livy yelled as she ran up the hill. “Daddy said I should come find you. Are you with Princess Ashley?”

A sprig of mistletoe and one memorable kiss make Sheridan and Mikey forget their plans to stay away from each other. But when family gets in the way, will their happily ever after get tossed out along with the discarded wrapping paper and tinsel?

Snippet:

He shook his head. “Nope.”

“Excuse me?”

“You’re not skipping Christmas.”

She didn’t understand how he knew that was what she wanted to do. Not that it mattered. “I am.”

“No.” He leaned forward. “Your father took your job and your apartment. Don’t let him take Christmas from you, too.”

As her jaw dropped, Michael’s words swirled in her head. Talk about a lightbulb moment. “I never thought about it that way, but you’re right.”

“I usually am.” With a satisfied grin, he ate a bite of his cinnamon roll.
