Marie never expected to wake up in North Pole City, let alone being made Santa’s Emergency Replacement. It was a job she never wanted but couldn’t turn down, thanks to Clarence, Santa’s right hand man.

Now, Marie has to work with Clarence, who believes she is some kind of criminal who will cause the destruction of everything he holds dear. Trying to prove that he’s wrong, Marie keeps making mistakes that push them even further apart. It doesn’t help that she has a past she’d rather keep hidden. However, trying to keep her past where it should belong isn’t easy.

Just when Marie starts to feel like things are coming together, a madman with a bone to pick, and Christmas to ruin, threatens the whole of the North Pole Organization. Marie must rely on Clarence and her new friends to help her face her past before Christmas is gone forever.  But does she have the courage to truly be herself when it could mean losing everything?

Snippet:

"E-two to C-one! Do you copy? Over."

Clarence shakily pulled out the device and thumbed the transmit button. "C-one here. What's the problem? Over."

Static sounded over the frequency as he released the talk button. He waited almost impatiently for a response, not liking the tone in Dena's voice. "We have a code seven. Repeat, a code seven. We'll meet in the usual place. Over," Dena's voice crackled.

"I'm on my way. Over and out." The radio gave one last burst of static as Clarence put it back in his pocket. He shook slightly as he stepped down from the running board. He couldn't help but remember a similar set of circumstances several years ago. Those circumstances had led to the death of one of his closest friends. He forced himself to stop trembling once his feet hit the cold ground. He had a job to do right now, and his personal life could not interfere, nor could his growing fear. He'd been trained too well. These feelings had to wait.

He turned to Marie with an unreadable expression. "Take the reindeer back to the stable, then go find Sandra." Without another word, he ran to a side entrance that led to the city, vanishing into the shadows.

Marie watched him leave, whistling a command to the reindeer. They ran to a high dune and disappeared. A growing fear beat against her chest; one she could almost put a name to.

Q&A With the Author:

1.   What do you like to do when you're not writing?
I like to bake, cook, watch movies, draw, paint, spend time with my hubby and/or cat (pending on who's home), spend time with friends, and just do normal stuff, I guess.

2.  What was the hardest part of writing your book, and how did you overcome it? The hardest part of writing this book was probably getting from point a to be to c. The idea started as a dream, which turned out to be the middle of the book, so I had to figure out how to get to that point and where it led once I got there. I prefer to be a pantster when it comes to writing so I just had to pick a point and go.

3. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
I would love to go visit Ireland, partly because I have ancestors from there, and partly because it just seems like such a magical place. A lot of legends come from there.

4.  Where do you get information and ideas for your books?
The ideas for my books either come from dreams, day dreams, or snippets from real life. This particular book started from a dream. Other books started from day dreams or something I saw in real life and wanted to elaborate on and make my own. My next project is based off of a parakeet in a grocery store, something that actually happened this Spring, with my own imaginary scenario of what would happen after meeting this bird.

5. Tell us a bit about a future project you are working on? Do you have any little sneak peeks you can share?
My next big project is probably going to be a children's book about meeting a parakeet in a grocery store (yes, really happened), but from a first person perspective about how the bird just decided to visit and didn't leave. Unfortunately, no sneak peeks just yet. I've got a lot of projects going on at present so I need to make sure I don't overdo on anything.

6. Now that we've gotten to know each other, tell us a story of a favorite childhood activity you used to do during the summer. It can be long or short. Funny, sad, or somewhere in between. Just make sure it's yours. Tell us a story?
When I was a kid, we used to play make-believe games where my siblings and I would pretend to be characters from our favorite movies or television shows. One of our favorites was Batman. I usually ended up being Bat Girl, with one of my brothers being Batman. We would run through the corn rows of mom's garden to "transform" in our "bat caves" before fighting of villains, also played by our siblings. Alas, I don't remember any specific details, but I do remember it was fun. That and we used to make "stews" in the tire swings dad made for us, using dirt, grass clippings, weeds, and water. And mud pies with the metal baking pan toys we had on hand. The one that really got us in trouble was using mom's bread pans to make "bricks" when the garden overflowed from watering.

Excerpt

“Crap!” Walter uttered as he bent to retrieve the upside down box. Its hinges strained in protest. The velvet insert fell from inside as he picked up the object. A folded piece of parchment fell. The two pieces of wood had sandwiched it in place until now.
Putting the broken box aside, Walter picked up the yellowing paper. It crackled but didn’t break. “Hello,” he said as he felt the hand-pulped paper. “What’s this?” Using extreme care, he placed the parchment on the desk near the window and unfolded it. His eyes widened as he did.
The ink had aged to a mix of brown and black, but there was no mistaking the contents. A map of the continent sprawled across the space. He could tell by the depicted topography that it was at least several generations old. The details were sparse in areas. Despite that, it provided more than enough to identify major points of interest. Upon further inspection, Walter saw an inscription had been added to the upper corner.
“Double crap!” Walter almost ripped the page refolding it. “Tyler needs to see this.”
